KPKKT sent representatives from the Compliance and Certification Department to participate in the OSH-Coordinator Course held at Kunang Training Centre, Kerteh, Terengganu. An Occupational Safety and Health Coordinator (OSH-Coordinator) is a trained and certified individual recognized by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH). Their primary responsibilities include assisting employers in workplace safety and health matters, identifying hazards, conducting risk assessments, and reporting accidents and dangerous incidents to DOSH. This program, introduced in 2017, aims to enhance safety standards in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) by emphasizing the need for skilled workers, reducing accident-related costs, and improving company reputation. The Occupational Safety and Health Act 2022 amendments, set to take effect on June 1, 2024, aim to strengthen worker safety protection by improving legal compliance and raising safety awareness. The amendments expand the act’s scope to cover all workplaces, including the public and statutory sectors, and introduce stricter penalties for safety violations. Additionally, the law now mandates employers with five or more employees to appoint an OSH-Coordinator, emphasizing proactive risk assessment and safety management.
