Golden Pharos Berhad (GPB), in collaboration with Kumpulan Pengurusan Kayu Kayan Terengganu, Pesama Timber Corporation, and other subsidiaries, successfully organized the “Walking With Giant” program on 6 October 2023 at the Kenyir Elephant Conservation Village (KECV). As part of this initiative, the Golden Pharos Group contributed RM50,000 to KECV to support its operations in conserving and sustaining the elephant population in Terengganu. This contribution and program were carried out in line with the requirements of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification, specifically addressing the following principles:
Principle 3: Upholding and protecting the rights of indigenous peoples
Principle 4: Safeguarding communities and workers’ rights
Principle 10: Fulfilling economic, environmental, and social policy requirements, as part of overall compliance with FSC principles and criteria.
The program also served to raise public awareness on the importance of wildlife conservation while providing education on biodiversity and the interconnectedness of ecosystems within the forestry and logging sectors. A total of 270 participants took part in this program, including members of the Board of Directors, GPB employees, special guests from PPDK Bukit Besi, and the indigenous community of Ulu Pergam.
